National Haunters Convention
We're all tickled by the thought of ghouls and ghosts, monsters,
goblins and some aliens that lurks just around the corner ...
And who can resist, "
Things that bump in the night".  I've
watched the Travel Channel and seen so much programing
made to stimulate the side of us that leans towards curiosity
and bedlam.  Where demons come out to play and your heart
pounds in your chest.  And we call this
"FUN".
The other day I got a mailing, guess it was sent to me cause I
myself promote this type of thinking and playfulness.  It was
suggested that I think about setting up a table at their growing
convention.  And I thought, "Maybe if I can afford it, "Next time
I'll be part too."  But I am presently planning on going to
Wonderfest this Spring and not everything can one do in life.
So ... Here's what I can do.  To promote their undertaking, I'm
suggesting that you visit their site and see if it's something that
you might like to add to your list of "Doings".  I see that there's
a whole bunch happening there, just go to their site and see.
Just click on their banner and away you go.

A new vision for an old diorama.
Whose to say a piece is complete just because it's put
on the shelf.  The mind is a place filled with wonder and
excitement.  A place where I dabble and have no limits with
my art.  I am happy when I look at a piece and see
possibilities that others might say, "Unnecessary.  It's done
and that is that.  Get on with it and don't fall back on your
past doings."  But I say,
"Explore and find territory that
only can imagine.  Mix up new thoughts and elements and
see what comes of it..  For where their is the inquisitive
mind there is surely joy."

I passed one of my completed scratch built diorama's
and thought,
"Why not add a few more figures to it.
Maybe some assorted creatures in the foreground and
background."
To our right you can see some fun I had in
Photoshop exploring a possible expansion of the piece.
And even better, expand the diorama.  And I'll get to write
a different scenario for the tale.
  I like it!

Another Side to My Nature.
Wood and me go back a long way ... 1987, I believe was, when I decided to start
documenting my work in picture form.  I still have photo albums residing in a little
cabinet I made just to hold them.  Albums containing woodwork projects for my home
and others who commissioned me to design, create and build furniture not able to be
purchased at any furniture store they did find.I'm proud to say, I do have a piece
included on
the New Yankee Workshop site, done some years back.  I also had a
small article put out in a
Woodsmith Magazine way back when.
To my left, are some pictures of my latest piece, the base chester drawers,
of a wall unit.  It's a really cool piece, done in red oak and walnut, two great woods
that fully complement each other in color and grain.   Most times mine is a mind
boggling experience building units this large in a one car garage.  Having enough
tools to easily fill a 3 car garage. But ... With a positive attitude and allot of deep
breaths, I always make it to another day.  Now that top of this unit, a section that
houses video and game equipment, is out of my wood shop,  Now, I can see my
models that have been lying in wait, most patiently.  I'm truly excited to get back to my
most loved hobby, modeling.  Just one door to make in the top part of the unit and
then I can call the entire wall unit complete.  Next month I'll a post a picture of that.
Win Win Win ... Yes here are the winners
Well to those who saw my contest and saw when it was pulled instead of continued, there
was to be a winner.  So as promised, a Geometric Design bust and base, I have  not
painted yet, were chosen from my stash of models.  These  shots are taken from the
Geometric Design site itself.  Unfortunately, I nor they, have any pictures of the base itself,
but you should know that they were shipped with the bust, to our winners.  And as also
was promised, long some paints, brushes, sandpaper a hobby knife and a set of
instructions, and some suggestions as to how to choose a color scheme and so on.

Because this contest was cut short way before it ever got its sea legs, I decided the only
fair thing to do for the two people who did join in the fun and sent out mailing to five others
and to me, are both being sent this in total.

Denis McDougall and Mark McGovern are the winners. Congratulations to them both.

Now this is my fervent hope for next year.  Like it or not.  That I can formulate another plan
of attack for a simple contest, that will be accepted with positive intentions it was created
for.  To promote the wonderful world of modeling, hopefully touching those who might be
touched in no other way than this.   Yes, to promote my own work and website.  Through
the sharing of who and what I do too.
That should not need saying.

Jason & Skeleton's acquired by a Museum.
Wow this is incredible!  It's now a done deal.  The curator of this new
museum,
The Museum of Monsters Myths and Legends due to become a
new land mark in New Jersey in 2012, is currently looking for pieces for
their exhibits.  Last week, I was approached by the curator of this up and
coming Museum and asked if I would be interested to my piece on display.
Well ... If the word,
"Thrilled!" comes to mind, well that's what I am.

Here's were it's going to be or you can just click on this
link and away you'll
be.  You should really check out the site and see the other marvelous things
that will be on display.
 To the events.

The Museum of Mythology is currently planning to open in Gloucester
County of New Jersey pending various township and committee approvals
and permits along a major roadway.

I hope you join me in this event, in my mind, something to look forward to.
